Govt working to build humane, discrimination-free, prosperous Bangladesh: Shahe Alam

BOGURA, Aug 26, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam today said the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is working to build a humane, discrimination-free and prosperous Bangladesh.

"The government is working to ensure that the benefits of development reach people from all sections of society, including marginalized people, persons with disabilities and students," he said.

The state minister made the remarks while distributing wheelchairs among persons with disabilities, bicycles and school bags among female students and fruit, medicinal and forest tree saplings among students at separate programmes in Shibganj and Mokamtala upazilas of Bogura.

He also distributed the materials among winners of the "Notun Kuri" competition as the chief guest. The initiatives were undertaken as part of the government's public welfare programmes.

Shahe Alam said the government is prioritizing education, healthcare, social security and environmental protection.

"Today's students will build the country in the future. So, alongside their studies, they must be encouraged to become responsible citizens and develop awareness about environmental protection," he said.

He said providing bicycles to students is not merely an effort to facilitate transportation, but also an initiative to make their educational journey easier and more dynamic.

Likewise, he said, providing wheelchairs to persons with disabilities is a humanitarian responsibility aimed at ensuring their mobility, independence and dignity.

As part of awareness-building initiatives, the state minister handed over sanitary napkins for female students to heads of 15 educational institutions. Corrugated iron sheets and financial assistance were also distributed among disaster-affected people.

Mir Shahe Alam said the government is giving the highest priority not only to development but also to improving people's quality of life.

"All kinds of state assistance will continue so that no one in society feels neglected," he said.

Representatives of local government bodies, government officials, political leaders, teachers, students and local dignitaries from Shibganj and Mokamtala upazilas attended the programmes.
