Implement foreign funded dev. schemes quickly: Principal Secy

DHAKA, March 6, 2024 (BSS) - Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary M Tofazzel Hossain Miah today stressed the need for speeding up the works to ensure quick implementation of the foreign funded development schemes.

The importance of rapid implementation of the projects came up in a high-level five-member committee’s first meeting headed by Prime Minister’s (PM) Principal Secretary.

The meeting was held today  to review the progress of the foreign funded development projects on quarterly basis at the NEC Conference centre at Planning Commission here.

The meeting discussed in details the reasons and challenges for slow progress of the foreign funded projects, said an official release.

President of the committee also put importance on quick recruitment of the project directors and imparting requisite training on release and use of loans and grants for project implementation.

Apart from these, the meeting also requested the Economic Relations Department (ERD) to hold meetings with all concerned, including ambassadors, if necessary to facilitating the issue of obtaining consent/no objection (NoC) from development partners at each stage of the procurement process for implementation of foreign-funded projects.  

At the same time, the President directed the ERD to take necessary measures to resolve the complications fast arising in some projects to be implemented under the Line of Credit (LoC).

The meeting was attended by member secretary of the committee, head of activities department, senior secretary of planning department and senior secretaries, secretaries of various ministries and departments.
