DHAKA, Feb 3, 2026 (BSS) - Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today said he did not foresee any challenges to holding the 13th national election as the current election environment as better than in previous polls.

"Holding the next general election will no longer be challenging. The election will be held in a fair, peaceful, and festive manner. Compared to past national elections, the atmosphere this time is quite favorable," he said.

The adviser made the remarks while responding to questions after attending a medal distribution ceremony of the Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) at its headquarters in Agargaon.

Chowdhury called upon all including the people to be patience and careful to pursue holding the next general election peacefully.

"The law enforcement agencies are already deployed across the country," he added, calling on all, especially the media, to cooperate with the government in facilitating a smooth election.

Replying to a question about seizure of illegal firearms, the Home Adviser said such operations are being carried out regularly. He noted that firearms used in the killings of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi and Mosaddek had already been recovered.

Commenting on the law and order situation in the Sundarbans, he said the area remains stable, attracting increasing numbers of tourists to the popular destination.

Earlier, during the medal distribution ceremony, the adviser urged Coast Guard personnel to perform their duties with neutrality, professionalism, and integrity to ensure a free, fair, peaceful, and credible national election and referendum scheduled for February 12.

"Perform your duties with complete impartiality and professionalism during the forthcoming parliamentary national election," he said.

Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry Nasimul Ghani and Coast Guard Director General Rear Admiral Md Ziaul Hoque, among others, were present.
