DHAKA, Jan 2, 2025 (BSS) - Fact-checking body Rumor Scanner dubbed misleading the viral photo of a cow slaughtering claiming it of interim government period, saying the photo is not new rather it is from 2023 of Awami League regime.

In a report published on its website on Wednesday, the fact checking watchdog said the scene of a dead cow is not from the current government, but from the time of 2023 during Awami League government period.

It said recently a picture of a dead cow was circulated on social media with the caption "Dr. Yunus is a name of criminal, he is not only killing people but also brutally torturing and killing animals."

The Rumor Scanner Team in an investigation found that the incident and the picture of the cow killing were not recent, but rather an old picture from 2023. But, those are being circulated claiming the new incident criticizing the current interim government.

In this regard, a post dated July 3, 2023 was found on a Facebook account named Abul Hasanat, where the same picture of a dead cow was seen attached.

According to the source of the post, the incident of cow killing took place on the night of July 2, 2023 in Ward No. 2 of Char-romoni Mohan Union of Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila.

The cow belonged to Dudu Mia Sardar in Karatirhat area and the cow with a calf in its womb was chopped to death and left next to the house of the neighbouring Badsha Molla.

The same information is also known from the Facebook post of local journalist Mohammad Akhtar Alam.

In the comment of the said post, he said he also visited the Karatirhat area of Char-romoni Mohan Union, the scene of the cruelty to the animal, along with the Lakshmipur District Police Superintendent and Lakshmmipur Sadar Police Station OC.

At that time, the police super listened to the statements of the locals.

So, the scene of a dead cow is not from the current government, but from the time the Awami League government was in power in 2023, the fact checking body concluded.
