Banned BCL leader Sajib arrested from city’s Hazaribagh area

DHAKA, Jan 4, 2025 (BSS) – The Detective Branch (DB) of police on Friday night arrested a leader of  banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) ,on charges of attacking the anti-discrimination student movement at DU campus, from the city’s Hazaribagh area. 

The arrested has been identified as Sajibur Rahman Sajib, president of DU's Bijoy Ekattor Hall unit of BCL.

A team of the DB, Lalbagh arrested Sajib after conducting a raid in the Zafarbad area of Hazaribagh at 11:30 pm on Friday.

The arrest was made with the help of CCTV footage analysis, intelligence information and technology, said DB Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman. 

A procession of DU students in support of the anti-discrimination movement took off from in front of the Raju sculpture on the campus in the afternoon of July 15, 2024, police sources said. 

At that time, leaders and activists of various affiliated organizations of the Awami League, including the banned organization Chhatra League, attacked the protesting students with domestic and foreign weapons in which 300 students were seriously injured. 

During the incident, DU student Md. Abu Sayad Bin Mahin Sarkar filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station on October 21 last as the plaintiff. Sajib is the 14th accused in the case.

The arrested Sajib has been sent to the court.
