PBI reveals UP member’s murder mystery in Mymensingh, arrests 4

DHAKA, Jan 4, 2025 (BSS) –The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has unearthed the mystery of a male union parishad (UP) member murder in Mymensingh and arrested four persons for their alleged involvement in the killing.   

The arrestees have been identified as Ashikur Rahman (35), Rahat Hossain Tanmoy (25), Md. Parash Chowdhury Shraban (29) and Md. Ehteshamul Haque Nishat (25).

A team of PBI of Mymensingh arrested the four from Dapunia Khejurtala intersection area under Kotwali police station of Mymensingh at 3 am on Friday, said a PBI press release today.  

Police earlier recovered the body of Md. Arifur Rahman 46, East Kerowa union number 6 of Raipur Upazila of Lakshmipur district in a paddy field at Tarakanda, Mymensingh on January 1 . 
Ayesha Akhter, wife of the deceased filed a murder case with Tarakanda police station against unidentified accused   on January 2.  

PBI, Mymensingh District Superintendent of Police Mr. Md. Rakibul Akhter said that the arrested are members of a kidnapping gang.  

The arrestees first kidnapped the UP member in a microbus and killed him in a paddy field at Tarakanda, Mymensingh as he tried to escape from their clutches and screamed for help, he said.  

“We arrested four criminals after being confirmed of their involvement in the murder of UP member Arifur Rahman,” he said.
