Labour leader Shahidullah laid to eternal rest

DHAKA, Jan 04, 2025 (BSS)- Veteran labour leader, President of Trade Union Centre (TUC) and BILS Advisory Council Member freedom fighter Shahidullah Chowdhury was laid to eternal rest at a graveyard in Demra.

Earlier he was given state honour as a valiant freedom fighter by awarding a guard of honour by the district administration following his namaj-e-janaza after the Zohar prayer.

His body was taken to the Central Shaheed Minar at 10.30 am where people from all walks of life paid tribute to him.

BNP National Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, Labor Reform Commission Chief Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmed, Jatiyatabadi Shramik Dal President and SCOP leader Anwar Hossain, TUC leader Abul Kalam Azad paid tribute to him from respective organizations.

People of different walks of life, professionals including the representatives of the International Labor Organization (ILO) also paid homage to him.

In the morning the body of Shahidullah Chowdhury was taken to the office of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) where party leaders paid last tribute to him.

Abul Hossain and Zakir Hossain Raju paid tribute to Shahidullah Chowdhury on behalf of the Workers' Party.

Shahidullah Chowdhury passed away at his Demra residence Friday at the age 84. He is survived by his wife and four sons, host of relatives, colleagues and admirers to mourn his death.

In 1964, Shahidullah Chowdhury joined the Latif Bawani Jute Mill as an ordinary worker. He was involved in the labor movement for more than fifty years. He played valiant role as a leader of the workers and the masses in every movement of the country.

Leaders of various labor organizations prayed for the peace of the departed soul and expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
