Juba League leader given 14 years jail in arms case

JHALAKATHI, April 06, 2025 (BSS) - A court here awarded 14 years of imprisonment to a Juba League leader in connection with an arms case.

Senior District and Sessions Judge of the Special Tribunal Rahibul Islam awarded conviction to Syed Hadisur Rahman Milon (42) Tuesday last in his absentia, Public Prosecutor (PP) of the district Maheb Hossain today said.

Milon, a Joint Convener of Awami Juba League, Jhalakathi district unit was also fined Taka 10,000. 

Police arrested Milon with a homemade gun and ammunitions on January 15 in 2020 and filed the case under arms act next day. However, Milon secured bail from the court later. 
 
The court examined eight witnesses to pronounce the verdict.

PP advocate Maheb Hossain moved for the state while advocate Nasir Uddin Kabir pleaded for the accused.

The PP said the verdict was given based on specific evidences. But lawyer of the accused said they would appeal before the High Court against the judgment.
