BGB seizes smuggled goods worth Tk 152.8 cr in March

DHAKA, April 8, 2025 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized various smuggled goods worth over Tk 152.8 crore from the frontiers and other places across the country in the last month, said a BGB press release. 

The seized contraband items include 7.958kg  gold, 780 grams of silver, 25,173 pieces of sarees, 10,701 three-piece, shirt piece and blanket, 22,280 ready-made garments, 33,889 meters of than cloth, 5,64,357 various cosmetics, 1,762 imitation jewelry, 4,752,196 fireworks, 6,929 cubic feet of wood, 3,236 kg of tea leaves, 25,656 kg of betel nut, 1,63,384 kg of sugar, 10,690 kg of fertilizer, 97 liters of octane, 25,900 kg of coal, 212 kg of yarn and current net, 522 mobile phone sets, 749 mobile displays, 86,781 glasses, 12,731 kg of various fruits, 3,641 kg of edible oil, 951 kg of onion and garlic, 17,235 kg of cumin, 6,325 kg of raisins, 1,03,953 pieces of chocolate, 4 stone statues, 10 trucks and covered vans, seven pickups, two private cars and microbuses, four trolleys, 17 boats, 20 CNG-run-auto-rickshaw and easy bikes, 62 motorcycles and 35 bicycles.

They also seized various weapons including 3 one-shooter guns, 46 rounds of bullets and 33,100 rounds of lead bullets during the period.

A large quantity of narcotics was also seized by the BGB last month. The seized drugs and narcotics include  - 7,47,161 pieces of Yaba tablets, 2.585kg  of heroin, 4.105kg of cocaine, 16,242 bottles of phensedyl, 9,377 bottles of foreign liquor, 44 liters of local liquor, 1,235 bottles of canned beer, 2,611 kg of marijuana, 1,55,239 packets of bidis and cigarettes, 18,5134 pieces of narcotic tablets and injections, 5,340 bottles of Escafe syrup, 55 bottles of MKDil and Kofidil, 2,737,069 pieces of various medicines and tablets, 12 bottles of LSD and 84,200 pieces of Anegra and Senegra tablets.

In the last one month, the BGB personnel arrested 134 smugglers alongside 337 Bangladeshi citizens and 14 Indian citizens for illegally crossing the border. Legal action was taken against them. 

In addition, 647 Myanmar citizens who tried to enter Bangladesh were returned to their country.
