3 AL men arreted in city for attacking July protesters

DHAKA, April 8, 2025 (BSS) - Detective Branch (DB) of police in separate raids arrested three Awami League (AL) members from different parts of the capital city for their suspected involvement in attacking the anti-discrimination student-people movement in July and August.

The arrested have been identified as Maruf Hossain Sifat (26), Vice-President of Dakshinkhan Thana Swechchhasebak League, Mahar Hossain Dewan (53), leader of Uttarkhan Thana Jubo League, and Awami League member Borhanuddin Russell (43).

The DB personnel arrested the trio in seperate raids at the capital's Dakshinkhan, Uttarkhan and Bangla Motor areas today, said a press release.

Being tipped off, a smart team of DB-Uttara division conducted a raid in the Mujibar Market area of ??Dakshinkhan around 8:25pm today and arrested Maruf Hossain Sifat.

He was accused in multiple cases with Uttara Paschim Thana.

On the other hand, another team of DB-Uttara division conducted a raid in the Dewan Bari area of ??Uttarkhan at around 9:10 pm and arrested Mahar Hossain Dewan.

There are two cases against Mahar with Uttara Purba and Rampura police stations.

Another team of DB-Gulshan division conducted a raid in the Bangla Motor area around 8:35 pm today and arrested Borhanuddin Russell.

He was also accused of multiple cases.
