Four to die in Habiganj murder case

HABIGANJ, April 9, 2025 (BSS) – A court here today sentenced four people to death in a murder case in Madhabpur upazila of the district in 2009.

The court also fined them Taka 50,000 each.

Judge of Additional District and Sessions Judge Court 2 AKM Kamal Uddin handed down the verdict this afternoon.

The convicts are - Soleman Mia, son of Maraj Mia, Emran Mia, son of Mohammad Ali, Zahed Mia, son of late Hormuz Ali, and Abul Mia, son of Abdul Moula, residents of Chandura village of the upazila.

Habiganj Court Police Officer-in-Charge Nazmul Islam confirmed the matter. 

According to prosecution, on April 12, 2009, the convicts called Sabu Mia from his house and killed him. The next day, police recovered the body from Bishwambharpur Haor.

After the incident, on April 14, deceased’s brother Hafiz Mia filed a murder case against five people with Madhabpur Police Station.

In the same year, police filed a charge sheet against five people in the court.

After examining 13 witnesses, the court found them guilty and handed down the verdict.

The court also acquitted one person as the charges brought against him was not proven.
