Mufti Ebadul sent to jail for derogatory comments on Khalda Zia

DHAKA, April 9, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sent Mufti Ebadul Islam Faridi of Nur Jame Mosque, Ashulia, for reportedly making derogatory comments on former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

Ashulia Police produced him before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate, Dhaka with a prayer for granting his seven days remand following a case filed against him for his derogatory, illicit and disrespectful comments on Begum Khaleda Zia. 

The court, however, decided to hold remand hearing tomorrow with the presence of the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case and ordered to send him to jail.

Inspector Syed Akhter Hossain of Dhaka District Court told BSS that Ataur Rahman, vice president of ward number 6 of Dhamsona union of BNP, filed a case against Ebadul Islam, Imam and Khatib of Srikhandia Nur Jmae Mosque for making derogatory comments on Khaleda Zia on April 7 last.

 Following the case, Uzirpur Thana police arrested Ebadul Islam on the same day.
According to the case documents, Ebadul Islam made derogatory, illicit and disrespectful comments on Khaleda Zia in a facebook page named ‘Dada Bhai Pinaky’ on April 5 from his ID. The comments made serious reactions and hatred among the supporters of BNP and its front organizations across the country.
