DHAKA, April 9, 2025 (BSS) – Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Adviser Supradip Chakma today congratulated the government on declaring holiday for Chaitra Sankranti in three hill districts Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban.
“We hilly people got a holiday on April 13th for Chaitra Sankranti. On behalf of the hilly people, I thank the current government for declaring a holiday on Chaitra Sankranti,” he told a press conference held at the BCS Foreign Service Academy Auditorium on Bailey Road in the city.
Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry and Cultural Affairs Ministry organized the press conference on the occasion of the Bangla New Year.
Biju Utsav, which is celebrated on the last two days of the outgoing year and the first day of the new year of Bangla calendar, is one of the main festivals of the Chakma community.
The adviser said Biju fairs are being held all over the hilly regions of Rangamati, Khagrachari and Bandarban to mark the Biju festival.
Various enjoyable games, including Gila and Bali, are going on there, Supradip said.
He said on the occasion of the Biju festival, his ministry has already provided 600 metric tons of rice as well as 450 metric tons of wheat to the three hill districts.
“We, the hilly people and the Bangalees, all want to work as brothers. The anti-discrimination movement has united us,” Supradip said.
He said the Cultural Affairs Ministry and the Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry are jointly conducting the programmes in Dhaka and Chittagong Hill Tracts regions on the occasion of the Chaitra Sankranti and the Bangla New Year 1432.
Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki and Assistant Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Shuchismita Tithi were present at the press conference.
