2 motorcycle thieves held in Motijheel

DHAKA, April 9, 2025 (BSS) - Police have arrested two active members of a motorcycle theft ring, including a wanted in 18 cases, while attempting to steal a motorcycle in the capitla's Motijheel area.

The arrested individuals were Md Hanif Molla, 28, wanted in 18 cases and Md Shafiqul Islam, 27, said a media release of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today. 

The release said a person, naming Md Siddiqur Rahman, also known as Tuhin, parked his motorcycle on the road in front of Alauddin Tower in Fakirapul at about 4:00 pm on Wednesday and entered the building. 

Shortly thereafter, the duo attempted to steal the motorcycle and tried to flee the scene. But, police with the help of local residents rounded up them along with the motorcycle.

Police said the arrested individuals are professional motorcycle thieves and known drug dealers. Documents showed that Hanif Mollah has been wanted in 18 cases in connection of theft, robbery, and drug-related offenses across multiple police stations, including Motijheel, Paltan, Shahbagh, Shahjahanpur, Ramna, Pallabi, Uttara Purba, Rupnagar, Darussalam, and Savar in Dhaka district. 

Besides, Shafiqul Islam has four drug-related cases registered against him in the Jatrabari and Kadamtali police stations.

Legal proceedings are currently underway against them.
