DHAKA, April 10, 2025 (BSS) - Police in separate raids arrested two individuals accused in a gang rape case from Dhaka and Chattogram on April 6 and 8.

The arrested were identified as Md. Hasib Chowdhury (27) and Atiq Hossain Bhuiyan (29).

According to a police press release, a team from Tejgaon Police Station arrested the accused from the capital's Airport Police Station area and the Chandgaon area of Chattogram.

Law enforcers also seized a private car, pen drives, laptops and mobile phones containing videos of multiple sexual assaults.

Police said Hasib Chowdhury became acquainted with the rape victim through Instagram about a month ago. Their online connection later developed into a friendship.

On April 4, Hasib invited the victim for an outing in his private car, where his friend Atiq was also present. The three drove around different parts of the city before heading home around 9:30pm.

During the journey, the accused allegedly forced the victim to consume alcohol mixed with a soft drink, which caused her to lose normal consciousness.

As part of a premeditated plan, they took her to a room at Imperial Hotel in Shaheen Bagh, under Tejgaon Police Station, which they had rented earlier.

There, the suspects allegedly detained and gang-raped the victim overnight and recorded the assault on a mobile phone.

The next morning, they left the victim beneath the Kuril flyover and fled the scene.

Following the victim's complaint, a case was filed with Tejgaon Police Station.
With the help of technology, police quickly tracked the whereabouts of the accused and carried out separate drives in Dhaka and Chattogram.

Atiq Hossain Bhuiyan was arrested from the Airport Police Station area of the capital on April 6, 2025, while Hasib Chowdhury was arrested from the Chandgaon area of Chattogram on April 8, 2025.

The two were placed on police remand after the court granted permission for their interrogation in connection with the rape case.

Following the interrogation, the main accused, Hasib Chowdhury, was produced before the court, where he confessed to his crime and gave a confessional statement.
