One held with 86 kgs of ganja in Bashundhara

DHAKA, April 10, 2025 (BSS) – Police detained a person with 86 kilograms of ganja in the capital’s Basundhara residential area on Wednesday afternoon.   


Bhatara police station of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested Md. Tafsir, 30, while interrogating him over the death of his wife, said DMP media release today. 

Police said a team from the local station went to recover the body on Wednesday after receiving a report that a woman had committed suicide, hanging herself in her bedroom in the Bashundhara residential area in the capital.

The victim's body was recovered and sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy, while her husband, Tafsir, was taken to the police station for questioning in connection with his wife’s death. 

During the interrogation, he spoke out incoherently all through.

Upon reviewing the records, multiple cases against him were unearthed. At certain stage of intensive interrogation, he confessed himself as a professional drug dealer. 

On the basis of his information,    police conducted a raid at the 6th floor of his rented apartment in Bashundhara residential area, where 86 kilograms of ganja were recovered.

The estimated market value of the seized ganja is TK 17.20 lakh.

A case was filed under the Narcotics Control Act at Bhatara police station in this regard.
