19 extortionists arrested in Savar, Dhamrai & Ashulia areas

SAVAR, July 17, 2025 (BSS)-The Dhaka District Police in separate drives have arrested a total of 19 extortionists from Savar, Dhamrai and Ashulia areas of the district at the early hours of today.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) of Dhaka district Arafatul Islam said that Savar police has arrested Jibon,25, Murgi Helal,27, Sentu,22, Nasir,27, Pannu, 21, Kala Miah,28 and Anwar,30 while they were extorting money on Dhaka-Aricha Highway and different footpaths of the area. 

On the other hand, the Ashulia Thana Police has arrested Mohammad Nasir Uddin,28, Rajib,28, Hannan Pramanik,26, Sumon Islam, 24, Ismail Hossain, 27, Babu,29, Rabiul Awal,27, Abdul Awal,28, Mahfuzur Rahman,29 and Bablu,26, for their alleged involvement in extortion in the area.

Besides, the Dhamrai Thana Police has arrested Motaleb Member,48, and Shaneen,37, from the area for their alleged involvement in the extortion.

Five separate cases were filed with Savar Model Thana, Ashulia and Dhamrai Thana in connection with these arrests.

Additional SP Arafatul Islam told BSS that similar drives would be continued against the extortionists and other criminals.

All the arrested extortionists have already been sent to the court for further legal actions, he added.
