DHAKA, July 17, 2025 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today sent five alleged members of an organized dacoit gang to jail, who reportedly carried out crimes by impersonating themselves as members of law enforcement agencies.

The accused are identified as Abdul Mannan, 35, Riad Hossain, 37, Abdul Jalil, 40, Md Motiur Rahman alias Motin, 37, and Paresh Adhikari, 35.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Wahiduzzaman passed the order after police produced them before the court and pleaded to keep them behind bars until the end of the investigation.

A team of the Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested the accused from the capital’s Motijheel Balaka area around 11:10 pm on Wednesday, while they were reportedly preparing to commit a robbery, posing as members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

Law enforcers recovered two RAB jackets, a walkie-talkie, and a pair of handcuffs from their possessions.

According to police, the arrestees are members of a gang that targets individuals who withdraw large amount of money from banks and rob them by impersonating themselves as members of law enforcement agencies.
