DHAKA, July 18, 2025 (BSS) - BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas today said peace will not return to the country if early elections are not held.

Abbas said these while speaking at brief rally prior to a silent procession held in front of the BNP central office in Nayapaltan in the capital in memory of the martyrs of the July-August mass uprising.

The silent procession began at 5 pm. Leaders and activists of the Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal were in the forefront of the procession. The procession ended in front of Abul Hotel via Kakrail and Mouchak.

Expressing concern over the ongoing situation in the country, Abbas said some are trying to establish themselves politically by selling the martyrs of the July Movement.

“Business are going on with the martyrs, political business is going on. If they were alive, they would have been ashamed of why they gave their lives, why they let themselves be shot,” he said.

The BNP leader said it is clear that certain parties are doing politics over those incidents and are trying to establish themselves politically by selling the martyrs.

Abbas said, “We have struggled, fought, gone to jail but we have not taken any reward for them, do not ask for it. But they are trying to establish a party based on July.”

Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP organized the programme with its convener Rafiqul Haque Majnu in the chair which was conducted by member secretary Tanvir Ahmed Robin.
