DHAKA, July 18, 2025 (BSS) - BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed today called upon all to remain vigilant so that fascism cannot return.
“We have to strengthen the national unity against fascism together with the people. Fascism has no place in Bangladesh,” he told a brief rally ahead of a silent procession from Pallabi in Mirpur here.
Metropolitan North BNP organized the silent procession programme in front of the BRTC bus depot in Pallabi, Mirpur as part of the party's nationwide programme in memory of the martyrs of the July-August uprising.
Salahuddin alleged that a party which once went against independence and public sentiment and always engaged in misleading politics is now trying to fish in troubled water.
“I will not name the party. The people of Bangladesh understand everything," he said.
Referring to another party, the BNP leader said, "Those who fanned the Awami League for 16 years do not want elections anywhere without the PR method. Another party that has always engaged in misleading politics has joined them."
“But we must remember that if someone wants to postpone the elections in the country, make the elections uncertain and stay in power without holding elections or conspire to fish in troubled waters, their aim is to rehabilitate the fascists,” he said.
“Those who are demanding elections in Bangladesh in the name of PR system, those who say they want local government elections before the national parliament elections have an evil intention,” he said.
He said the only responsibility of this interim government is to present a fair, beautiful and impartial national election.
“You are not responsible for local government elections,” he said.
Criticizing the demands of PR system election, he said, “The people of this country do not understand elections in the PR method”.
Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP convener Aminul Haque, member secretary Mostafa Zaman, Swechchhasebak Dal president SM Jilani, Jubo Dal general secretary Nurul Islam Nayan, Krishak Dal president and agriculturalist Hasan Zafir Tuhin and Chhatra Dal general secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir were present, among others.
