NARASINGDI, July 19, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy today called upon the interim government to organize the polls in February saying if anyone pressures or obstructs, BNP will stand by the government.

"Although the PR (proportional representation) election system is good in other countries of the world, it is not a system in our country. This system does not suit our culture. PR is an attempt to seize power through backdoors,” he said.

Gayeshwar was addressing a discussion and prayer mahfil organized at Itakhola intersection here by Shibpur Upazila BNP commemorating martyrs of the student Uprising and seeking recovery of the injured.

Speaking about Jamaat, he also said, "If the people forget the deeds of the defeated forces of 1971 and vote for you, we will salute you."

“Freedom fighters like us cannot accept the glory of the defeated forces of 1971 to live. You committed crimes in the war of independence, we have forgiven but not forgotten,” he said.

Upazila BNP President Abul Haris Rikabder presided over the meeting while BNP Joint Secretary General and District BNP President Khairul Kabir Khokon, District BNP Senior Vice President Sardar Sakhawat Hossain Bakul, General Secretary Manjur Elahi, BNP National Executive Committee Member Akramul Hasan Mintu and Upazila BNP General Secretary freedom fighter Abu Salek Rikabder also spoke.

Prayers were offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of the all martyrs of July Uprising, including 4 who was killed at Itakhola intersection in the Mass Uprising of the students.
