2 held with 1577 grams gold ornaments at Shahjalal airport

DHAKA, July 20, 2025 (BSS) - Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn) on Saturday arrested two individuals along with 1577 grams of gold ornaments worth about Tk over 1.92 crore from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here.

The arrestees have been identified as Md. Shariful Alam (30) and Md. Zubair (36).

Airport (13) APBn Operational Commander Police Superintendent Mohammad Mozammel Haque confirmed BSS of the matter.

He went on saying, "As part of regular activities, the Airport APBn works to prevent smuggling and other crimes in the airport area. We are on the highest alert to prevent any smuggling using the airport."

Police arrested the duo on Saturday morning while they were trying to escape in a silver-colored private car from the area between Canopy No. 1 and 2 at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

After a search, the police personnel seized 1577 grams of gold ornaments from the toolbox of the private car.

During interrogation, the detainees said that the recovered gold ornaments were illegally brought to Bangladesh by evading customs from different countries. 
  
The detainees have been involved in a gold smuggling syndicate at the airport for a long time and have been working as receivers. 

A case was filed against them with the Bimanbandar Police Station in connection with this matter.
