CHUADANGA, July 20, 2025(BSS) - The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized drugs and gold worth about Taka 29 crore, six firearms with 14 bullets and detained 2,168 people from the bordering areas of Chuadanga and Jhenaidah districts in the last six and a half months.
Additional Director of 58th battalion of BGB Major Abu Hanif Md Sihanuk said they seized the drugs, smuggled gold, arms and ammunition from the bordering areas under Maheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah district and Jibonnagar and Damurhuda upazilas of Chuadanga district from 1st January to 20 July. They also detained a total of 2168 people, including 19 Indian nationals, from the area while crossing the Indo-Bangla border, Major Sihanuk said.
The BGB Major said that they seized 7920 bottles of liquor, 9517 bottles of Indian Phensidyle, 68 kilograms and 263 grams of cannabis, 45,806 pieces of yaba tablets, 5.11 KGs of cocaine, six KGs and 505 grams of heroin, 23510 pieces of Viagra tablets, 50,645 pieces of tablets for the treatment of cancer, huge cosmetics, dresses, fertilizer, pesticides, VOIP machines, sunglasses and different types of crackers from the areas during the time. The total value of the seized goods is about Taka 24,13,41,446, he said.
The BGB at the same time seized three KGs and 654 grams of smuggled gold from the areas worth about Taka 4,94,50,502, Major Sihanuk added.
The BGB official said that they detained 1138 from the areas while going to India illegally and they also detained 979 people while coming to Bangladesh without valid documents, he said, adding that the BGB personnel nabbed 19 Indian nationals including a broker at that time. They also nabbed 32 Bangladeshi brokers and seized two foreign revolvers, four country made pistols and 14 rounds of bullet from their possessions.
Meanwhile, nine taskforce of the BGB during its operation at that time seized illegal current net, Chinese net, Indian Sarees, Shawls and three pieces worth about Taka 90,88,615. The magistrates of the taskforce also realized Taka 2,60,000 as fine.
