Banned BCL man held while trying to set fire to bus in Shyampur

DHAKA, July 20, 2025 (BSS) - Police arrested an activist of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) while trying to set fire to a bus in the capitals' Shyampur area. 

The arrestee has been identified as Siam Sarkar (22).

Police apprehended Siam from Khandaker Road area on the Dhaka-Mawa Highway under Shyampur Model Police Station around at 4 am today, said a police press release.

Siam was arrested on the basis of secret information that two BCL men were trying to set fire to a bus standing at Khandaker Road on the Dhaka-Mawa Highway under Shyampur Model Police Station at the instructions of Jubo League leader Shakil Bin Shams alias Rabbi. 

At that time, another BCL man Rafsan managed to flee the scene. 

During the initial interrogation, the detained Siam said he and Rafsan were trying to set fire to the bus with the intention of creating havoc in the Shyampur area.

A case was registered with Shyampur Model Police Station in this connection.
