CHATTOGRAM, August 10, 2025 (BSS) - Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain has announced a plan to plant one million tree saplings across the city to help restore environmental balance and promote a greener urban landscape.

The mayor made the announcement while speaking at a tree plantation programme held on Saturday at the Kalpalok Residential Area Playground, organized by the Bakalia Kalpalok Residential Area Plot Owners Welfare Association.

"We are working to plant one million trees across Chattogram to restore ecological balance and build a clean and green city," Dr. Shahadat said. "The greening and beautification of every city ward has already begun."

He noted that, along with CCC funding, various social and civic organizations are also being involved in the initiative to enhance greenery in public spaces.

Highlighting the city's unique topography, the mayor said, "Chattogram is known for its natural beauty and hilly terrain. Trees are especially vital here, not only do they add to the city's beauty, but they also play a critical role in preventing soil erosion, floods and landslides, which are common in hilly regions."

The event was presided over by Professor Dr. Mohammad Kamal Hossain.
