DHAKA, Sept 20, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan today said the Awami League's tyrannical rule has completely hollowed out the country's economy over the past 15 years.

"Recently, a highly renowned, world-famous newspaper in the UK published a report stating that 234 billion US dollars had been laundered from Bangladesh in the last 15 years. This is not a small amount. The money could have been used to build 100 Padma Bridges," he said.

Moyeen Khan made the remarks while addressing a discussion as the chief guest at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Hall of the National Press Club.

The Nationalist Bank-Insurance Professionals' Council organized the event.

The senior BNP leader also said democracy is not the ultimate goal. He said, "We must remember that democracy is not our final objective. Our objective is something else, which we can achieve through democracy. In other words, democracy is our mechanism. Through this mechanism, we want to improve the living standards of the 180 million people of Bangladesh; that is our main goal."

"We want to create a social system where millions of people, regardless of their caste, creed, or religion, can live in peace," he added.

President of the Nationalist Bank-Insurance Professionals' Council M Wahiduzzaman presided over the event, while BNP leaders of various organizations were present.

Speakers at the discussion also highlighted the dire state of looting in the banking, insurance and financial sectors by the fascist Sheikh Hasina.
