DHAKA, Sept 22, 2025 (BSS) - National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari today said NCP is optimistic about getting registration from the Election Commission as a party along with its electoral symbol “Shapla”.

He made the remarks today while talking to journalists after a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) at the Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon.

“We discussed registration, electoral symbol, and expatriate voting with the CEC. The EC has taken a positive decision regarding NCP’s registration,” said Nasiruddin.

He said the NCP remains firm on its demand of Shapla as electoral symbol.

“Regarding the symbol, we made it clear that our choices are Shapla, white Shapla or red Shapla. We will not move away from the three options we have proposed” said Nasiruddin.

About the propaganda against the party, Patwari said, “Some are saying in various ways that Jamaat doesn’t want elections, and NCP doesn’t want elections. These are propaganda. If there is any party in Bangladesh that wants a quick and fair election, it is NCP, because we were denied our right to vote.”

He said if the July Charter is not accepted and if no standard change comes in the Legislative Assembly, then only new face will take charge in the place of Sheikh Hasina.

“That is why we are stressing this. And if parties sit together, this issue can be resolved within 10–15 days,” he said.

On the political scenario, he said, “Three political blocs are emerging. An Islamic bloc has already formed, another under BNP’s leadership is in progress, and the third is under our leadership. We are not joining the BNP-Jamaat bloc,” he said.

Nasiruddin said many youths who were active in movements over the last 15 years and even formed parties have now agreed to join under NCP’s banner.

“We are in discussions with them, and it has been decided we will work together. How this will be executed is still under discussion. A broader youth alliance is coming,” he said.

He hoped NCP will get 150 seats in the upcoming election.

From BNP and Jamaat activists who joined the mass uprising, we will give silent support to good candidates among them, he added.

About proportional representation (PR) system, he said, “We want PR in the upper house, not in the lower house.”

NCP joint convener Khaled Saifullah and joint member secretary Zahirul Islam Musa were also present in the meeting with the CEC.
