RAJSHAHI, Sept 22, 2025 (BSS) - The much-awaited election to Rajshahi University Central Students' Union (RUCSU), Hall Council and Student Representatives to the Senate has again been rescheduled to October 16 from September 25.

Chief Election Commissioner Prof F. Nazrul Islam announced the decision in a statement this evening after an emergency meeting of the election commission.

According to the notice, the election was deferred due to the ongoing complete shutdown enforced by teachers, officers and employees of the university.

The development came amid demands from at least five panels, including Chhatra Dal, to hold the election after the Durga Puja, citing unrest over the ward quota issue and students leaving campus for puja vacation.

The election commission said that the current campus situation was not conducive to holding the polls in a festive, participatory, and fair manner.

It also noted that an adequate number of teachers, officers, and employees who are essential for conducting the election could not be ensured because of the shutdown programme.
