DHAKA, Sept 24, 2025 (BSS) - Mobile courts in Dhaka and Narayanganj disconnected illegal gas connections, saving gas worth more than Tk 27 lakh a month.

The drives were conducted under the supervision of executive magistrates of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division with support from Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited, said a PID release today.

In Kamrangirchar of the capital, eight illegal factories and two residential connections were severed, while Tk 60,000 was realized in fines for illegal gas use.

During the drive, 140 feet of GI pipe, 50 feet of hose pipe, and a compressor/booster set were seized. The operation is expected to save gas worth around Tk 10.27 lakh per month. In total, 11 service lines were disconnected from the source.

Besides, in Narayanganj's Bandar area, around 450 feet of illegal pipeline was removed. Authorities also cut off about 1,500 illegal connections, including 1,000 residential and one commercial connection.

The drive is estimated to save gas worth Tk 58,145 per day, amounting to around Tk 16.99 lakh a month.

Energy and Mineral Resources Division said such drives will continue, and legal action will be taken against those using illegal gas connections.
