DHAKA, Sept 24, 2025 (BSS)- A court here today granted five days police remand for former minister Advocate Qamrul Islam in connection with the killing of ‘Jhut’ trader Monir at Chankharpool area during last year’s mass uprising.
Metropolitan Magistrate Sadikur Rahman issued the order as Qamrul was produced before the court and sought 10 days remand.
Detectives arrested Qamrul Islam from the capital on November 18 last year. Earlier, he was taken on remand several times in connection with various cases lodged against him.
According to the prosecution, Md Monir, a Jhut (rubbish fabric) trader, was shot dead by police near Chankharpool area on August 5 last year during the mass uprising.
Rozina Akhter, wife of the victim, filed a case with Shahbagh thana on March 14 mentioning the names of 351 accused and over 500 unnamed people in this connection. Advocate Qamrul is the number 7 accused in the case.
The same court also showed the former lawmaker of Dhaka-7 constituency Solaiman Selim as an arrested accused following a petition submitted by the prosecution.
Solaiman Selim, son of former lawmaker from the same constituency Haji Md Selim, was arrested from a house in city’s Gulshan area on November 13 in connection with a case with Chakbazar thana.
