Govt forms committee to choose next BFIU head

DHAKA, Sept 25, 2025 (BSS) - The Financial Institutions Division (FID) of the 
Ministry of Finance has formed a five-member selection committee, headed by 
the Bangladesh Bank governor, to recommend the appointment of the chief of 
the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU). 

To this end, the FID today issued a notification.

The other members of the committee are - the secretary of the Financial 
Institutions Division, Dr Mohammad Mohiuddin, additional secretary (drafting) 
of the Law and Parliamentary Affairs Division; NKA Mobin, president of the 
Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB); and Dr Mosaddek 
Hossain Kamal, professor of the Department of Computer Science and 
Engineering at the University of Dhaka.

On 9 September, the government cancelled the remaining tenure of AFM Shahinul 
Islam's contractual appointment as the head of the central bank's 
intelligence unit.
