DHAKA, Sept 29, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee member Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed today said fair and free elections are nor possible by keeping the elements of the autocracy in the administration.

“Associates of the autocrat are still active in the administration and a fair election isn’t possible by keeping them in different administrative positions," he said.

Hafiz Uddin made the remarks at a discussion titled ‘There is no alternative to the national parliament election’, organized by the Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal and the Muktijoddha Projonmo at the Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall of the National Press Club.

Hafiz Uddin said, "Bangladesh is still unable to take the necessary steps on the electoral map because the autocrat’s associates are still sitting in the current administration. No measures have been taken to remove them, and if they stay, the election won’t be fair."

"On behalf of BNP, we have demanded and will reiterate it today, that for the sake of a neutral election, the current administrative system must be made neutral. We cannot go to an election with autocrat's associates on the field," he added.

Issuing a note of warning against conspirators, he said BNP will resist election saboteurs on the streets.  Criticizing those who are saying that the election will not be allowed to take place, the BNP senior leader said, “We want to say that BNP is not a weak party. We want to see on the streets-Insha Allah, who will prevent the election. Seventeen years of sacrifice cannot fail.”

Regarding the Proportional Representation (PR) system, Hafiz Uddin said, "Elections cannot be held under the PR system, the people of this country have no idea about it. I would tell those who are campaigning for PR to go to the people mentioning it in your manifesto and election promises. If people give you the mandate, then implement this system. We will accept it."

President of the Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal Syed Ishtiaq Aziz Ulfat presided over the event.
