DHAKA, Sept 29, 2025 (BSS) - BNP International Affairs Secretary Barrister Nasir Uddin Ahmed Asim today said the country will face an economic disaster if an elected government is not established soon.
“There will be an economic disaster in the country if an elected government does not assume office very soon," he said while speaking at a human chain programme in the Dhanmondi area of the city.
The human chain was formed at the initiative of BNP, its front organizations and people from all walks of life in the Dhaka-10 parliamentary constituency demanding modernization of the traffic system to ensure a congestion-free city and stopping movement of unauthorized and unfit vehicles in the city.
Barrister Asim said, “Domestic and foreign investments aren’t taking place. This is because investors no longer feel safe. Our demand to the interim government is to bring an end to the 17-year long movement through a neutral election. If BNP gets the opportunity to form the government in that election, we will work to fulfil all the needs of the citizens."
Regarding public sufferings, the BNP leader said, “There are thousands of cars on the roads, but most vehicles lack fitness. New roads are not being constructed, illegal vehicles are not being stopped and old roads are not being repaired."
"Amid such sufferings, we, the taxpayers, are not receiving necessary civic services. From now on, if we don't receive civic services, we will stop paying all taxes. The state runs on the people's money, but civic suffering is not decreasing. The state cannot run under such a system," he added.
Former president of the Dhaka College Chhatra Dal Kazi Masud moderated the event while Senior Joint Convener of Kalabagan Thana BNP Kibria Lucky, Joint Convener of Hazaribagh Thana BNP Dr. Reza Faisal, Joint Convener of Dhanmondi Thana BNP Abu Naser Liton, Joint Convener Md. Dila, President of Ward-18 BNP Abdus Sattar and General Secretary Amir Husein, among others, participated in the event.
