DHAKA, Sept 30, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed today said the party does not support political divisions based on religion, reaffirming its commitment to inclusive and democratic values.
"BNP does not want politics to be divided along religious lines. Our politics represent people of all religions and communities," he said. "We are committed to ensuring every citizen's right to vote in a fair and democratic environment."
Salahuddin made these remarks after paying tribute at the grave of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, marking the founding anniversary of the party's affiliate, the Olama Dal.
Speaking on the current political climate, the senior BNP leader noted growing public interest in the upcoming national election.
"People are now focused on the election, and aspiring candidates are actively engaging with the public. If any party tries to obstruct the electoral process, the people will identify and reject them politically," he said.
He warned of visible efforts to disrupt the democratic process and stressed that "the people will resist any conspiracy, whether local or foreign, that aims to hinder the country's progress."
Salahuddin also urged all political parties to set aside differences and work together for the greater good of the nation.
Referring to the Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system, he criticized it as a source of instability.
"PR systems often result in hung parliaments and create uncertainty. The people of this country are against it. For us, PR means Public Relations. That's what matters now, and that's what everyone is focused on," he said.
The event was attended by Olama Dal Convenor Maulana Kazi Md. Salim Reza, Member Secretary Advocate Maulana Kazi Mohammad Abul Hossain, and other BNP leaders and activists.
