DHAKA, Oct 1, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged that political attempts are underway to disrupt the country's longstanding communal harmony.

Speaking during an exchange of greetings with the Hindu community at the Paltan Community Center Puja Mandap, Rizvi said, "An effort is being made to politically divide the country's communal unity, which is extremely regrettable."

He further alleged that those who cannot accept the fall of the fascist and illegitimate government led by Sheikh Hasina are instigating unrest, particularly in the hilly regions, during the sacred festival of Durga Puja.

Rizvi also claimed that an "international conspiracy" is being orchestrated from a neighboring country to sabotage the Puja celebrations.

"To ensure the peaceful and proper observance of Durga Puja, both Hindus and Muslims have pledged to work together," Rizvi said. "We are taking steps on all fronts to maintain a festive and secure environment during the celebrations."

He added that, under the directive of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, leaders and activists from the party and its affiliated bodies are remaining vigilant to prevent any acts of sabotage or political mischief.

"We are committed to ensuring that no one can exploit the Puja for disruptive purposes or tarnish the image of Bangladesh," he said.

Highlighting the country's history of religious unity, Rizvi said, "Hindus and Muslims fought side by side during the 1971 Liberation War and also stood united during the anti-autocracy movement in 1990. Today, we must continue that legacy of unity to protect communal harmony."

Rizvi called on all political parties and citizens, regardless of their political affiliation, to come together in defense of national unity and peaceful coexistence.

Among others present at the event were BNP Joint Secretary General Advocate Abdus Salam Azad, BNP leaders Joydeb and Dr. Zahidul Kabir, and Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) Vice-President Rashedul Haque.
