Nagorik Oikya protests detention of aid workers, flotilla to Gaza

DHAKA, Oct 3, 2025 (BSS) - Nagorik Oikya has strongly condemned the detention of ships from the Global Sumud Flotilla, carrying relief for Palestinians in route to Gaza, by Israeli forces in international waters.

The protest was expressed at an emergency meeting of the party's central committee on Thursday at Eskaton in the capital, with Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna in the chair, said a press release issued today.

Leaders at the meeting demanded immediate release of the detained humanitarian workers and called for ensuring that aid reaches Gaza.

They also urged the Bangladesh government to mobilize international support to stop Israel's illegal occupation of Gaza and the West Bank, as well as to end the ongoing genocide and blockade in Gaza.

The meeting also discussed the preliminary selection of candidates for the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election. Out of the submitted applications, 56 names have been approved in the initial screening process.

Besides, the meeting unanimously elected Sakib Anwar and S M A Kabir Hasan, who were serving as organizing secretaries, as joint general secretaries of Nagorik Oikya.
