BAGERHAT, Oct 4, 2025 (BSS) - A 22-day nationwide ban on hilsa fishing began from midnight Saturday to protect mother hilsa during breeding season.

Low pressure in the sea kept most fishermen ashore ahead of the ban, resulting in a poor catch. Over 50 trawlers returned to Bagerhat's KB Bazar on Friday, but hilsa supply fell short of expectations.

Traders from across the country rushed to buy fish ahead of the ban.

Senior Fisheries Officer Rajkumar confirmed the ban will remain in effect till October 25.

Government has allocated 25 kg rice for per fishermen family in this ban time.
