DHAKA, Oct 5, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today acquitted Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member and former minister Gayeshwar Chandra Roy in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Dhaka Special Judge's Court-3 Judge Muhammad Kamrul Hasan Khan passed the order relieving the BNP leader of charges as the allegations brought against him did not prove.

His lawyer Borhan Uddin confirmed the matter to BSS.

According to the case details, Gayeshwar in his wealth statement had shown that a six-storey house in Ray's market was built at a cost of Taka 40.80 lakh while his house on his ancestral land in Keraniganj was constructed at Taka 15.4 lakh.

However, the Public Works Department found that additional Taka 25.36 lakh was also expensed in constructions of the two buildings which the BNP leader concealed in the wealth statement.

In addition, electronic equipment worth over Taka 58,000 was found in Gayeshwar's house, which was also undeclared in the asset details.
On January 5, 2009, S.S. Mofidul Islam, Deputy Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission, filed the case as the plaintiff.

After investigating the case, he submitted a charge sheet to a court on July 5 of the same year.

Then, on February 4, 2010, the court ordered the trial to begin by framing charges in the case.

During the trial of the case, 29 out of 47 witnesses testified in the court.
