AL organising secretary Mozammel sent to jail in Rubel killing case

DHAKA, Oct 6, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sent to jail Awami League (AL) organising secretary and former lawmaker from the Shariatpur-1 constituency BM Mozammel Haque in a case lodged over the killing of garment worker Rubel during the July-August Mass Uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana passed the order as police produced Mozammel before the court and pleaded to keep him behind bars till the end of probe in the case.

Police arrested the former lawmaker from the capital's Niketon area on October 5.

According to the case documents, a couple of hundred student-people including Rubel brought out a rally in Adabor Ring Road area in the capital on August 5, 2024. Around 11.30 am, the rally came under attack from police and cadres of AL and its front organisations. Rubel got shot and died on the spot.

On August 22, 2024, Rubel's father Rafikul Islam filed the case with the Adabor Police Station in this connection.
