ACC files case against ex-minister Moktadir, asks his wife to submit asset statement

DHAKA, Oct 7, 2025 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against former minister and lawmaker R.A.M Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury on charge of acquiring assets beyond known source of income and suspicious transactions.

ACC Director General Md Akhtar Hossain said deputy assistant director Abu Mohammad Anwarul Masud was in charge of investigating the case filed against the ex-lawmaker of Brahmanbaria-3 constituency.

Speaking at a media briefing at the ACC head-office today, he said that the ACC also instructed former director general of the directorate of secondary and higher education Fahima Khatun, wife of Moktadir Chowdhury, to submit her wealth statement to the commission.

Hossain said Moktadir Chowdhury acquired and possessed assets worth of Tk 2.21 crore, which is inconsistent with known source of his income, while evidence was found about suspicious transactions of around Tk 24.89 crore through his eight accounts with six banks.

According to the investigation report, he said that the amount of assets acquired by the accused from legitimate sources of income is around Tk 2.98 crore, whereas the total value of his assets during the investigation stood at around Tk 5.19 crore. The net asset mentioned in the latest income tax return was around Tk 3.44 crore.

The case was filed against him under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947 and Sections 4(2) and 4(3) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2012.

Meanwhile, the ACC investigation found evidence that Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury's wife Fahima Khatun acquired and possessed assets of Tk 50 lakh which is inconsistent with the known source of her income. 

The ACC approved a decision to issue a notice against her under Section 26(1) of the ACC Act, 2004 to submit her wealth statement.
