Fugitive accused arrested in Bhatara

DHAKA, Oct 8, 2025 (BSS) - A team of Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of police on Tuesday arrested a fugitive accused from the capital's Bhatara area.
 
The arrested accused Mahannan Karim @ Amith (42), son of late Nazrul Karim, a resident of Bakul Villa, House No.-30, Road-04, Sector-04, Uttara Purb, Dhaka. 
 
A team of ATU arrested Amith from Bhatara Thana area around 09.50 pm on Tuesday, said a police press release.
 
The detainee was an accused in a case filed with a Dhaka court under Negotiable Instrument Act in 2014.
 
According to the case details, the arrestee gave a cheque of Tk one crore to one of his relatives against an agreement of purchasing a flat at Shahjadpur area under Gulshan Police Station in 2014 and the cheque was dishonored by the bank for not having sufficient balance. 
 
As the detainee did not return the money, the relative filed the case with a Dhaka court. 
  
The court, after the conclusion of the trial, on October 8, 2017, sentenced the accused Amith to one year of imprisonment and a fine of Tk one crore taka. 
 
After the announcement of the verdict in the case, the accused had been hiding in various places to avoid arrest. 
 
The detainee was handed over to Uttara Purba Police Station.
