136 AL men charge-sheeted over students killing case in Pabna

PABNA, Oct 08, 2025(BSS) - Police yesterday submitted a charge sheet against 136 leaders and activists of local Awami League (AL) over two students killing case in the district town during the last year’s mass uprising.

Officer-in-Charge (Ops) of Pabna Sadar Thana, also the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Sanjoy Kumar Saha submitted the charge sheet to the court on Tuesday night, court and police officials said here today.

The IO said that they so far arrested 35 accused of the case and rest accused persons have been absconding immediately after the incident. 

Advocate Golam Sarwar Khan Juwel, Public Prosecutor (PP) of Pabna District and Sessions Judge Court confirmed the news saying initially 103 people including former lawmaker from Sadar constituency Golam Faruk Prince and former chairman of Bharara union council and organizing secretary of Sadar upazila AL Abu Sayeed were accused in the case. 

One of the accused persons, has already expired by this time but police found involvement of more 34 people in the killings, the PP added.

According to the police, Zahidul Islam, 18, a student of Pabna Polytechnic Institute and Mahbub Hossain Niloy,16, a class nine student of Siddiq Memorial School of the town were shot dead at the traffic intersection of the town during the anti-government students’ movement on August 4 last year. 

Zahidul Islam was the son of Dulal Uddin of Char Bolorampur village under sadar upazila while Niloy was the son of Abul Kalam of Hajirhat Betepara village of the same upazila. 

Both the students joined the movement and they were shot dead during an attack carried out of the accused led by former chairman of Bharara union council and organizing secretary of Sadar upazila AL Abu Sayeed, police added.

Md Dulal Uddin, father of Zahidul Islam, on August 10 last year filled a case accusing the leaders and activists of local Awami League.
