DHAKA, Oct 8, 2025 (BSS) - The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Tuesday seized 237 Indian cows and 42 buffaloes worth about Tk 3 crore in two separate operations in Sylhet and Sunamganj districts.

BGB Sylhet Battalion Headquarters and Bishnakandi BOP conducted a special operation at Itachoki on the border of Rustampur Union of Gowainghat Upazila and seized 237 Indian cows brought from India for illegal smuggling into Bangladesh, said a BGB press release.

In another operation, the patrol team of Lafarge BOP seized 42 Indian buffaloes in the Dinertuk area of Doarabazar Upazila in Sunamganj, it also said.

This is the largest cattle seizure in the history of the Sylhet Battalion so far, the release said, adding that the estimated value of the seized cows and buffaloes is about Tk 3 crore.

In this regard, Lieutenant Colonel Nazmul Haque, Commander of the Sylhet Battalion, said, "The BGB is always alert and active in protecting the security of the border, preventing illegal smuggling, and tackling all criminal activities, including drug trafficking."

Due to enhanced BGB's intelligence activities and special operations, smuggling activities in the border area have decreased significantly in recent times, he said.

"Such operations will continue in the future," he added.
