Ex-MP of Naogaon-6 Omar Faruk, 4 AL men held in city

DHAKA, Oct 9, 2025 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of police has arrested former member of parliament (MP) for Naogaon-6 constituency Md Omar Faruk and four activists of the Awami League (AL) - whose activities remain banned - and its affiliated organizations from different parts of the capital in the last 24 hours.

Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the matter to BSS.

Faruk, who was accused in multiple July Uprising cases, was arrested from Mohammadpur Thana area around 2.30am today.

Vice-president of Dhaka North City unit of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Abu Naim Jeber (22) was captured from DIT Road, Malibagh under Rampura Police Station around 11:30 pm on Wednesday. 

DB police arrested 12 no ward BCL vice-president Tanvir Islam (30) from Mukta Bangla area under Mirpur Police Station around 11:30pm on Wednesday while Bimanbandar Thana AL cultural affairs secretary Syed Sazzat Hossain (57) from Kawla area under Uttara Police Station around 7:30pm on Wednesday. 

Motijheel T@T Colony unit of Jubo League Amzad Hossain Rajon (44) from Shapla Chattar area under Motijheel Police Station around 3pm on Wednesday.
