Jamaat mourns death of Prof Dr Tofail Ahmed

DHAKA, Oct 9, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of the local government expert, researcher, and chief of the Local Government Reform Commission, Professor Dr Tofail Ahmed. 

In a condolence message, party Secretary General Prof Mia Golam Parwar said that Prof Dr Tofail Ahmed was one of the country's pioneering researchers on the reformation and development of the local government system.

"He served as the chief of the Local Government Reform Commission with remarkable wisdom, expertise, and sincerity. His constructive and realistic proposals, submitted to make the local government infrastructure more effective and accountable, will play a positive role in shaping the country's policies," the Jamaat leader said.

He added that Professor Dr Tofail Ahmed had served as a local governance adviser in Bangladesh under the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and that the country has lost an honest, wise, and dedicated researcher with his death.

Earlier, Prof Dr Tofail Ahmed passed away at United Hospital in Dhaka on Wednesday night. He was 71.
