Tarique Rahman stands by elderly couple pulling ghani without cows

NILPHAMARI, Oct 09, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has come forward to support an elderly couple, who were pulling Ghani (Oil) without cows. 

The elderly couple is Mostakin Ali and Sakina Begum, residence in Uttar Durakuti (Paglatari) village under Bagagili Union of Kishoreganj Upazila in the district. 

After the news of 'Elderly Couple Pulling Ghani for 30 Long Years Without Cows' was published in various media outlets across the country, it caught the attention of Tarique Rahman.

Subsequently, he instructed Atikur Rahman Ruman, Convener of the 'Amra BNP Poribar,' a platform of BNP, to contact with the couple. 

Following this directive, a delegation from Amra BNP Poribar visited Mostakin Ali today at 12:00 pm on behalf of BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General and Chief Adviser of Amra BNP Poribar Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was present as the Chief Guest during the visit with the elderly couple. 

Rizvi delivered a message of empathy to Mostakin Ali from BNP's Acting ChairmanTarique Rahman. The veteran leader also inquired about the couple's overall well-being.
Later, Rizvi formally handed over cash to purchase a two cows for the ghani and keys to two battery-operated auto-vans to the elderly Mostakin Ali on behalf of Tarique Rahman, with an aim of making the family self-reliant.

Member Secretary of the 'Amra BNP Poribar' Krishibid Mokesedul Momin Mithun presided over the event while Amra BNP Poribar advisers Eng. Ashraf Uddin Bakul, Abul Kashem, Eng. Mostofa-e-Jaman Selim, Member Masud Rana Liton and National Press Club Managing Committee Member Zahidul Islam Roni was present on the occasion. 

Meanwhile, at the same event Amra BNP Poribar met with the families of Shaheed Sajjad Hossain and Shaheed Nayeem Babu, who were killed during the July uprising in Saidpur upazila and provided them with financial assistance.

“Ghani” is a traditional, animal-powered technique for extracting oil from seeds using a large, wooden grinder.
