MYMENSINGH, Oct 9, 2025 (BSS)- BNP Joint Secretary General Syed Emran Saleh Prince has said BNP is a universal and welfare-oriented political party that stands above religion, caste and ethnicity and seeks to promote peace and morality in the society as well as religious values and cultural heritage.

He made the remarks while addressing a Durga Puja reunion held at the premises of the Zilla Parishad Dakbungalow in Dhobaura Sadar here today.

Extending greetings to all on the occasion of Durga Puja and Bijaya Dashami, Prince said that communal harmony is an enduring tradition in Bangladesh where people from all faiths participate in each other’s religious and cultural festivals.

“This tradition of harmony reflects the essence of Bangladeshi nationalism,” he said, adding that BNP aims to involve all citizens irrespective of religion or caste in the nation-building process with equal dignity and respect.

Criticizing the Awami League, Prince said that the party has historically used minority communities as vote bank to serve its political interests. While the party may have benefitted, the minority communities have suffered, he said.

He said that BNP does not politicize religion or use religious communities for political gain.

Commenting on the current political landscape, the BNP leader said that the Awami League has turned into a public enemy through unlashing years of corruption, repression and human rights violation.

Awami League committed atrocities during the mass uprising of 2024, forcing its leadership to flee the country, he noted.

“The fall of fascism has ushered in a new democratic journey. With the national election approaching, it is time to look forward and engage in rebuilding the country,” he added.

Former Upazila Chairman Mofiz Uddin, Dhobaura Upazila BNP Convener Professor Azharul Islam Kajal, BNP Member Secretary Anisur Rahman Monik, BNP Senior Joint Convener Moazzem Hossain Khan Liton, and leaders of the 'Sanatani' community including Subhash Saha, Narayan Hajong, Minati Shil, Ashish Saha and Bipul Chandra Sen addressed, among others, on the occasion.
