Ex-MP Omar Faruk sent to jail in murder attempt case

DHAKA, Oct 9, 2025 (BSS) – A court here today sent former Member of Parliament (MP) for Naogaon-6 constituency Md Omar Faruk to jail in a case lodged with the Mohammadpur Police Station over an attempt to murder one Imrul Kayes Foysal during the July-August Mass Uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Minhazul Islam passed the order as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to keep him behind bars till the end of probe in the case.

Police arrested Md Omar Faruk from the capital’s Mohammadpur area earlier in the day.

According to the case documents, Imrul Kayes Foysal, 29, joined anti-discrimination student movement rally on July 19, 2024, in Mohammadpur Beri Bandh area. The rally allegedly came under attack and Foysal got shot. 

He was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Foysal on September 26, 2024, filed the case with Mohammadpur Police Station against 184, including Obaidul Quader.
