TIB mourns death of Prof Syed Manzoorul Islam

DHAKA, Oct 10, 2025 (BSS) - Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has expressed profound sorrow at the passing of Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam, a distinguished educationist, former member of TIB's Board of Trustees and Ombudsperson of the organization.
 
In a condolence message, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Executive Director of TIB, said, "Professor Manzoorul Islam made remarkable contributions as TIB's Ombudsperson and Board member in advancing anti-corruption social movements and promoting good governance in Bangladesh. His thoughtful guidance, insightful advice, principled counsel, and empathetic support inspired all of us."

"TIB will always remain indebted to him for his extraordinary contribution. As a dedicated and principled scholar, he will continue to be a source of inspiration for us," he added.
 
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, TIB management, the TIB-inspired Committees of Concerned Citizens (CCC), Youth Engagement and Support (YES), Active Citizens Group (ACG), and all TIB staff and members, deepest sympathies are extended to the bereaved family of Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam, with prayers for the eternal peace of his departed soul.

Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam served as TIB's Ombudsperson from 17 April 2019 for his first term of three years and from 03 October 2022 until his passing.
 
In addition, he was a member of TIB's Board of Trustees for two consecutive terms from 16 May 2013 to 12 April 2019, serving for a total of six years.
