
DHAKA, Nov 26, 2025 (BSS) - Non-resident Ambassador of Uzbekistan to
Bangladesh Sardor Rustambaev met Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin at
the latter's office in Bangladesh Secretariat today.
During the meeting, both sides expressed keen interest in further
strengthening bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation.
The discussions focused on expanding collaboration in textiles, leather,
agriculture, pharmaceuticals and agro-processing sectors.
Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin said Bangladesh and Uzbekistan enjoy a
historic relationship, which can be deepened further through enhanced trade
and investment, said a Commerce Ministry press release.
"Bangladesh and Uzbekistan share longstanding ties. We want to strengthen
these relations through increased trade and investment cooperation," he
added.
Ambassador Rustambaev praised Bangladesh's impressive economic progress and
highlighted the vast potential for expanding bilateral trade between the two
countries.
Bangladesh and Uzbekistan established formal diplomatic relations on 15
October 1992, following the dissolution of the Russian Federation.
In the fiscal year 2024-25, bilateral trade between the two countries
amounted to US$37.23 million, of which Bangladesh's exports to Uzbekistan
stood at US$32.83 million and imports from Uzbekistan totaled US$4.40
million.
In recent years, trade relations between Bangladesh and Uzbekistan have been
steadily growing, with both countries identifying each other as promising
markets.
The meeting also discussed removing trade barriers, promoting tourism,
enhancing Dhaka-Tashkent air connectivity, boosting joint investments, and
accelerating the exchange of commercial information.
Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman and Additional Secretary (Export) M Abdur
Rahim Khan were present at the meeting.
